Bio

Joan M. Gené received the M.Sc. (Feb’2001) and Ph.D. (Feb’2005) degrees in telecommunications engineering both from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

Dr. Gené is currently a UPC's associate professor at Telecommunications School of Barcelona and member of the Signal Theory and Communications department. His research has been focused on advanced modulation formats for fiber-optic communications. He carried out two postdoctoral stages (Sep’2005 – Aug’2006 and Aug’2018 – Jul’2019) at Bell Laboratories (Lucent Technologies during the first stay, now Nokia) in Holmdel, NJ (USA). His current research activities include advanced transmission schemes for high capacity fiber-optic networks and spatial-division multiplexing (SDM) technologies.
